Sputtery Offense? Utes' Prove Otherwise

By Jacob Sorenson Utah football writing can be difficult when the main focus is always their defense. For me, a spectator who enjoys good college football but not technically an avid supporter, I've attempted the past couple of seasons to take a very raw approach when analyzing the Utes'. I have watched, reviewed, and witnessed Utah football as an outsider with a hope of achieving balanced views. Constant questions returning to mind are; Do the Utes have the offensive presence to succeed? Do the Utes have the balance required to win the PAC12 south? Will Utah's offense have a more balanced attack and not be so predictable? Following their come from behind 31-27 win many of those questions were answered. If I did not believe or had potential doubts in the first few weeks of the season, each were for the time being satisfied. It all began in the first half when I leaned over to Shawn stating that the Utes' were too predictable. Run, Run, Run, and if necessary pass...

Aggies Struck Gold with Rayshad Lewis

By. Jacob Sorenson Coming in to the 2016 season, and newly moved to Logan, Utah I had no idea what to expect from Utah State. A much improved Aggies team, at least from the time I last saw them play, prior to the Gary Anderson era. One thing I did know prior to the season opener was that during recruiting, the Aggies had landed the son of an NFL icon. Rayshad Lewis, a 5'10" cornerback and slot receiver from Orlando, Florida was set to come to Utah to highlight his skills. When I first heard that Rayshad had chosen Utah State over ten or more other schools I couldn't wait to see see him on the field. It didn't take long. Thursday, the 1st of September against Weber State, he caught 3 passes for 26 yards and nearly showcased his breakaway speed on one end around that landed the true freshman a big ovation from the stands. Devonte Mays also showcased the backfield which Utah state has created over the past few years. The depth at running back is not something the...

Sitake Era Begins with Old-School BYU Flare

By. Jacob Sorenson If I were to predict two years ago that Kalani Sitake would become BYU's new head coach, the opening games for 2015 and 2016 were both won in the last seconds by freshman, and that Taysom Hill and Jamaal Williams would be seen together in the backfield in 2016, the majority of people would say I was out of my mind. To add to that, Most people would have thought the idea of Ty Detmer on the sidelines as offensive coordinator was also absolutely outrageous. The day following their season opening 18-16 win over Arizona in the Cactus Classic, The Kalani Sitake era has started off with a bang and every one of those 'impossible' feats has come to fruition. BYU has seen its fair share of change in recent years. Of those changes, the offensive coordinator situation has been the most common. Taysom Hill has now played for three coordinators and three offensive schemes. The most impressive of changes on offense is that which Ty Detmer has made. A return to...
