Undefeated...

By Shawn Harris

I find it really interesting how after 4 weeks we have 6 undefeated teams. As a fan of this beautiful game there is nothing I love more than seeing the excitement of teams being undefeated but I also do not like when teams are fighting for their first win deep into the season. Those kind of seasons hurt. As a Raiders fan that seams to happen more than not. But this year for "us" and others it's different. Teams seem to be fighting a lot more. Still some inconsistency, but that always calls for some fun games.
The teams who are undefeated and how they fared this week..

The New England Patriots. They had a bye, so they sit at 3-0 on the season. Between Brady's extra motivation steaming from an, in my opinion, annoying off season that almost had him suspended. Him and Gronk this season have hooked up for already 4 touchdowns in three games. It's a duo that's hard to stop.

Green Bay Packers and their super star and arguably best QB in today's game Aaron Rodgers are on fire! 11 touchdowns and 0 interceptions. That's incredible! Having two running backs who can carry the load Genoa out the passing game a lot. James Jones I know is excited being back with Aaron Rodgers. He again gets a touchdown and is such a reliable target. The absence of Jordy Nelson I don't think is all that bad, though he would help. But Cobb, Jones, and Tight End Richard Rodgers are stepping up! And to go along with that the defense is doing very well. They were all over the 49ers and Collin Kapernik. Clay Mathews getting heads lines with the "you ain't Russell Wilson bro!" Sack last Sunday. These guys are my super bowl pick. Mark my words! Patriots vs Packers!

The Atlanta Falcons are such an exciting team to watch! Julio Jones is grabbing MVP attention as fast as he is grabbing balls out of the air. He is playing big thus season already racking up 478 yards which is tied for the league best. And Devonta Freeman..who is that guy? The next big thing at running back. Last week he had 3 touchdowns on the ground. Which in a pass first offense I bet you anything Matt Ryan is loving it!

Carolina Panthers is a team that I am not surprised are undefeated but is a team I don't see staying undefeated for long. Cam Newton is pretty much everything for them, and it's not the safest to rely on your franchise QB to to do everything. It can be done. Will it? Maybe..but I don't think so. Losing keuchly really hurts them but as Jared Allen comes around they should be fine on defense. And that Josh Norman is making a name for himself with his 2 picks and one pick six last week. If they get a solid running game outside of Newton, they will do great things.

Denver Broncos. As their name starts with D, so does this team. In my opinion the best Defense in football. I mean they are undefeated thanks to huge defensive plays late in the game. The pass rush and coverage is impressive. On offense the CJ Anderson hype is dying faster than Peyton and we all thought Peyton would die first. Though he isn't all that great like usual. Doesn't mean he isn't great! He had blessed us fans for 18 years with amazing QB play and so when we watch him now, we assume it's nut good. But ask any Niners or Texans fan if they would take Manning...exactly. He is not the old Manning, but he is still doing what is needed.

Cincinnati Bengals are for real. Though I would trust Andy Dalton in the playoffs yet! I may later but now no. He is playing awesome. A big Part of that goes to the running game from Giovanni Bernard and Jermey Hill. Together they have 460 yards rushing. Cincinnati is in a division that is hurting and could walk through this  season to the playoffs.

Out of those four teams I see the Patriots and Packers being the best. The offenses scare me. Scoring so many points both! But the excitement is going to continue for these teams.

College Football Playoff expansion necessary

The regular season is near its end. Twitter has been buzzing with news on possible Big 12 expansion and the college football playoff. Following one of the most injury ridden and surprise packed seasons to date, the college football playoff committee has chosen that Clemson, Alabama, Michigan State, and Oklahoma to represent the top four in the playoff. In a turn from the wild and whacky endings of previous years, including last year when Ohio State made a surprise entry, this year was simple. Ohio State lost to Michigan State in a nail biter near the end of the season. The loss not only paralyzed their chances of retaining Ezekiel Elliot, but also a chance at the playoff. On the last Saturday of the regular season, In a last gasp for hope, Ohio State beat Michigan handily. Ohio State had made a case that they were the better team, but received no condolences. As a neutral viewer, I argue that the one loss Ohio State team deserved a chance. Not only were the defending national ch...

Holiday hires fill BYU football coaching staff, Help return to Royal

Kalani Sitake Provo - The Saturday following Christmas day is here and there is nothing greater than the joy of college football. The changes announced by BYU during their early week press conference lead us to believe that there many great additions to come. With time constantly winding, little time was lost in making big time decisions. As Christmas eve was winding down Cougar nation received the excellent news that its very own golden boy, the Heisman hero, Ty Detmer would be returning home. Kalani Sitake had made one of the biggest recruiting jumps in BYU history with the addition of Troy Warner and Handsome Tanielu. Several commits to Stanford had begun to de-commit and other changes were molding the football landscape, or at least BYU's landscape. And to add on to the recruiting, Ty Detmer finalized his contract. Ed Lamb Along with the announcement of Ty Detmer, Sitake also announced the addition of Iliasa Tuiaki who was the Linebackers coach at Oregon...

First Loss, A Stress Relief

By Jacob Sorenson Something a real sports fan must actively look forward to is the first loss of the season. This is true in any sport and any season, but specifically in college football. How the team responds to the first loss is an indicator of their character. The stresses and pressures holding a team stationary are relieved after a loss and how they progress or digress moving forward gives professional scouts and fans reason to have hope in the present or hope for better days ahead. Improvement can even lead to national recognition and championships. But the loss is almost always a relief and a reason to settle down and play the great game of football, solely for the love of the game. I remember looking back years ago when BYU played an impressive 12-0 season. With Brandon Doman at quarterback and impressive running back Luke Staley, BYU was destined for greatness. BYU had coaching great Gary Crowton at the helm and their season was moving forward, until they met H...
